Extraverted Thinking (A complete Guide)

This article will define and discuss Extraverted Thinking (Te). It will also delve into the details of Extraverted Thinking signs and describe some of the prominent public figures with the dominant Te function.

Extraverted Thinking

Extraverted Thinking (Te) is one of the eight cognitive functions, first highlighted by Carl Jung in his work, ‘Psychological Types.’ Extroverted Thinking can either serve as a dominant function or auxiliary function for ENTJ, INTJ, ISTJ, and ESTJ (i.e., TJ types). It shows it is one of the four judging functions used to make decisions by the brain. However, it is also found as the auxiliary or inferior “FP” types like INFP, ENFP, ISFP, and ESFP).

As an extraverted function, Te is easily identifiable in the appearance and expressions of TJ types. They are characteristically impersonal, focused on ideas and systems instead of feelings and people. TJ types present their rational judgments; they practically think out loud. Their straightforward and spot-on style is often perceived as blunt, harsh, or tactless.

With the Te, the judging is performed on the basis of facts and logic rather than emotions and values. Extraverted thinkers can separate the objective facts from their emotions.

Te is objective knowledge. It focuses on goals and evaluates the surroundings, and retains the information that leads towards the goals. Extraverted Thinking believes in observing the world on the basis of facts and reasoning and then analyzes it for developing the framework.

Extraverted Thinking aims to establish the external world and its operations to be rational, integrating precise definitions, plans, policies, and methods. From the perspective of Extraverted Thinking, unless we work objectively, no system can be optimized. Therefore, they strive to have standard operating methods. These procedures and standards should explicitly reduce ambiguity and the possibility for interpretative errors. ENTJs, specifically, are significantly found in CEOs, while ISTJs and ESTJs are found in management positions. On the other hand, INTJs may eventually find their position at the top of organizations, as their Ni dominant function, they usually prefer the positions of managers and decision-makers.

TJ types are also sometimes drawn to training and teaching roles. Some of the elementary school teachers are usually ISTJs, whereas INTJs typically find their place as college professors. Overall, TJ excels at works that allow them to structure, organize, and manage information and operations.

Characteristics of Extraverted Thinking

Extraverted Thinking approaches and structure everything in rational and logical ways. It may be performed for an understanding, utility, or maintaining order in the form of science, technology, and enforcement of law and order. Extraverted Thinking typically uses their left hemisphere of the brain. The left brain is typically analytical, logical, systematic, and explicit in its workings. It takes the information from the perceived world, breaks in the pieces, then identifies and analyzes those pieces on their own terms.

TJ types, particularly NTJs, perceive the world based on analytical and rational hierarchies. The better the system is understood and rationally identified, the more imperative it is to predict, manage, and manipulate. As modern science and technology are laid on the foundation of extraverted thinking ideals, the procedures and implementation are easily accepted and defended by the TJs.

A methodical and systematic approach characterizes Extraverted Thinking; they tend to be perfectionistic. TJs typically pay keen attention to the order of things, ensuring they align with the proper linear or hierarchical structure. TJs also like to incorporate facts, measures, and empirical data. Extraverted Thinking’s objective perspective sees the world as a system with interconnected components functioning according to the cause and effect system.

Quantification is also a characteristic of Extraverted Thinking. They usually involve numbers for objective measurements, statistics, benchmarks, etc. They are fond of evidence-based practices, which are mostly associated with quantitative research. They believe in the notion that numbers don’t lie. They also believe that quantitative research should be the foundation of all information and decision-making.

  • Armin Marlert from Attack on Titan
  • Norman from The Promised Neverland
  • Kawora Nagisa from Neon Genesis Evangelion
  • Izuku Midoriya from My Hero Academia
  • Naomi Misora from Death Note
  • Sosuke Aizen from Bleach
  • Yuki Sohma Fruits Basket
  • Itachi Uchiha from Naruto Shippuden
  • Mayuri Shiina from Stein: Gate
  • Jinora from The Legend of Korra
  • Aerith Gainsborough from Final Fantasy VII

What are the Traits of INFJ Personality Type

An advocate (INFJ) is somebody with Introverted, Intuitive, Feeling, and Judging personality traits. They approach life with deep thoughtfulness and vivid imagination. Their vision, values, and a silent, structured code of humanism guide them in everything.

INFJs are the rarest personality types. They still manage to leave their mark on the world and in the hearts of people. They have strong idealism and discipline; they are not idle dreamers; they take steps to achieve their goals and leave a lasting imprint.

They have unique personality traits, making them versatile and complex. They can speak to great lengths with passion and conviction when they are standing for their ideals. They are usually soft-spoken, preferring peace over challenging others.

Although they are reserved, they communicate warmly and sensitively. Their emotional honesty and insight can make a strong impression on the people around them. They maintain deep, authentic relationships with others and take great care of others’ feelings. They take time out for themselves to recharge, decompress, and process their own feelings and thoughts.

They may find themselves under stress when faced with criticism and conflict. They have the best intentions, but they may get frustrated when others don’t’ value them. To them, even constructive criticism may be hurtful.

Now let’s look into the description of INFJ anime characters:

Armin Arlert from Attack on Titan

Armin Arlert will do whatever it takes to make a positive mark for the future of humanity. Armin is extremely protective of his friends and highly empathetic, exhibiting the INFJ anime character’s true spirit. Though he is calculative and composed on the battlefield, he is also attuned with his sensitive and emotional side. He finds it hard to kill, even though it is the right thing to do at that time. He is often seen visibly shocked and emotional after a fight ending in bloodshed. He is adamant about keeping his humanity and never becoming blind to others’ suffering–even his foes. Armin also struggled with shyness and low self-esteem initially, but he transforms and evolves into a version of himself that unapologetically owns all his traits.

Norman from The Promised Neverland

Norman is an orphan boy, waiting to be adopted by his “forever family.”  One fine day, the reality of his existence is unveiled to him; he has to find his escape to freedom along with his siblings.

Norman has the strategic, long-term thinking of the INFJ along with the ‘others first’ and empathetic approach. Irrespective of the difficulty of the situation, Norman always prioritizes the welfare of those around him over his own comfort. He outsmarts almost all the opponents due to his complicated, far-reaching strategies. His understanding and insights about people are advanced than his age; considering he is only eleven years old.

Kawora Nagisa from Neon Genesis Evangelion

Kawora is more like an angel than a human being. He is truly an INFJ, emotional and empathetic. He talks in universal terms instead of personal terms; he is focused on understanding humanity and their perspectives. He is warm and emotionally open, part of the reason Shinji was comfortable enough to open up.

Kawora is also drawn to the concepts of human suffering and loneliness and seeks to understand others’ deeper feelings. His emphasis and curiosity to understand the psychology of others is an iconic INFJ trait.

Izuku Midoriya from My Hero Academia

Izuku Midoriya is a visionary and compassionate character. He has tailored his life around one goal: to become a hero that brings a ray of hope and peace to everyone. Like a typical INFJ, Deku loves spending most of his time strategizing his next move. However, on the battlefield, extra time is not always allotted.

In the entire series, Mirdoriya gets a grip on his inferior Extraverted Sensation and learns to respond quickly in situations against his enemies. His kindness, strategic planning, and visionary thinking are classic examples of a functional INFJ in the form of a superhero.

Naomi Misora from Death Note

Naomi is a former FBI agent and is exceptionally famous for her high investigative skills. Although she makes it into the show for a small part only, Naomi’s character is critical.  She has powerful insights into people, particularly Light Yagami. Her ability to look beyond the superficial masks is comparable with the deductive skills of L.

Naomi is extremely intelligent, but her feelings can sometimes cloud her investigations. She thinks things too deeply–often the people she loves, a common INFJ trait. Due to this, she was manipulated by Light Yagami to undermine her abilities.

Sosuke Aizen from Bleach

Sosuke Aizen is polite and intelligent and makes a great example of a  villainous INFJ character. He is apparently friendly and sociable, but he conceals his manipulative and means inner self under the social mask. Sousuke will do anything to achieve his missions, even if he has to play with others’ feelings or murder them.

He sees this world as a chess game, and it is difficult to see his plans without picturing the end product and tracing back to see how his actions triggered the other until he achieved his goal. He has a broad vision of how the world ought to be and then plays people emotionally to act according to his scheme.

This is the trait exhibited by unhealthy INFJs, and ends justify the means scheme to life. While apparently, they look warm and friendly, on the inside, they can be manipulating and cunning.

Yuki Sohma Fruits Basket

Several INFJs share the same struggles as Yuki Sohma did in the social environment of the school. He appears to be charming on the exterior but struggles with intense feelings of loneliness and insecurity. As a typical INFJ, he finds it hard to cope in the sensory environment around him. His room is messy, and he makes mistakes often as he is more indulged in the thoughts and ideas than the physical world around him.

Yuki wants to make friends but often find it hard to start conversations.

Itachi Uchiha from Naruto Shippuden

IIn the initial episodes of Naruto, he shows slight usage of Extraverted Feeling; however, as the show goes on and his backstory is revealed, he shows the feeling function almost constantly in his younger years. .

After a series of trauma, he decides to switch the feelings off and is seen in the Ni-Ti cycle. Nonetheless, the feeling functions show up every now and then when he prioritizes others over himself. He is a frequent deep thinker; he wonders the meaning of death, life, and other patterns and outcomes. He uses analogies and  symbolism to express himself.

Mayuri Shiina from Stein: Gate

Mayuri is a childlike and innocent character; she has perceptiveness that is easily overlooked if not seen closely. She may have a naive demeanor, but she has incredible insights into people. She also has a strong understanding of how people feel, making her empathetic.

She speaks in analogies and symbolism, highlighting her Introverted Intuition and is determined to maintain harmony and to prevent any conflicts, showing her Extraverted Feeling.

Jinora from The Legend of Korra

Jinora is quiet and reserved but highly insightful and exhibits firm conviction and courage. She has an inherently great affinity to the spiritual world and is the only human capable of interacting with spirits. Her understanding of the spiritual world and human nature is a true reflection of an INFJ at its full potential. She is a wonderful example of an INFJ mentor or counselor. She is calm, wise, and patient with people – she can guide people in the spirit world and feel their individual energies.

Aerith Gainsborough from Final Fantasy VII

Aerith is a ‘Ni” dominant character; she is highly intuitive and decisive with her intuition. She is always making predictions of what will happen next and what someone said or meant using her intuition. She can easily read people’s emotional condition with her feeling function, and she genuinely cares for society for its morals, respect, and values. She is not Fe-dominant though, she is not in her feelings all the time.

ESTP Anime characters (13+)

This blog will describe 11 ESTP anime characters, but before going into the anime characters’ details, we’ll briefly give an overview of the ESTP personality type.

Iconic ESTP Anime Characters

Some of the iconic ESTP anime characters are given below:

  • Katsuki Bakugou from My Hero Academia
  • Baan from The Seven Deadly Sins
  • Greed from FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
  • Masamune Makabe from Masamune-Kun’s Revenge
  • Yumeko Jabami from Kakegurui
  • Rintarou Okabe from Steins:Gate
  • Dimple from Mob Psycho 100
  • Faye Valentine from Cowboy Bebop
  • Isaac Netero from Hunter X Hunter
  • Joseph Joestar from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventures
  • Pan from Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT

Traits of ESTP Personality Type

An entrepreneur (ESTP) is somebody with Extroverted, Observant, Thinking, and Prospecting personality traits. They are energetic and action-oriented, keenly observing what is in front of them. They like unveiling life’s opportunities, whether they are in any social set up or more personal ventures.

They have a significant impact on their environment–it’s easy to spot the ESTP at any party; you can see them mingling with every group from time to time. They have a blunt and earthy sense of humor; they love laughing and entertaining people. ESTPs enjoy being the center of attention. Entrepreneurs volunteer if any audience member is asked to come on the stage.

People with ESTP personality traits are bursting with energy and life. They love to discover new ideas and activities. They love philosophy and knowledge. They like to gather practical and drilling ideas in the details that can then be put to use. ESTPs combine boldness and practicality, almost naturally. They like to experiment with new ideas and ways of solutions. They can put things together as no one else can think of.

The originality and uniqueness helped by their ability to notice the minute changes in things–and also when to change them. Little changes in the habits and outlooks stand out to ESTPs, and they use their observations to build new connections and bond with people. Their perceptive skills are not used to manipulate or play mind games on people. They are keen on communicating transparently, with factual and straightforward questions and answers. They take things at face value.

The ESTPs put all of their qualities and skills to assert themselves as great leaders in the groups. Although they don’t actively seek to lead the people, they have a natural knack for making incredible use of their social skills and networking opportunities.

ESTPs prefer reality and facts over feelings and emotions. They find emotionally charged situations to be awkward and uncomfortable. They are helplessly blunt, and they can’t help tone down their honest opinion. They also have a hard time identifying and expressing their own feelings. Moreover, ESTPs move at their own pace; they can’t work by someone else’s clock. This makes them impatient, which leads them to the strange territories without thinking of the long-term consequences. They deliberately fight boredom with extra risks.

They are unstructured in a way that if they see an opportunity, they will ignore the rules and social limitations in the process. They may achieve the goal, but it can create the risk of social fallout.

As ESTPs are mostly living in the moment, they may miss the bigger picture, getting caught up in the details of a project’s section. This type cannot be boxed in with the structure, rules, or system. They are action-oriented people and prefer to do hands-on work. Formal systems and environments like schools and entry-level positions can be intolerable and unacceptable to the ESTPs. This setup requires extraordinary effort for the ESTPs to stay focused and not side-tracked or distracted with other things.

Now that we have looked into the ESTP traits, without further ado, let’s go to the ESTP anime characters and their outstanding qualities.

Katsuki Bakugou from My Hero Academia

Not many anime characters are as outgoing and adventurous as Katsuki–popularly known as the Baron of Explodi-Kills.

Young Katsuki aspires to be a hero and is never afraid to speak his mind or lead the battle from the front lines.

But wait, Katsuki is not only a meathead going high on his actions. Just like the ESTPs, Katsuki Bakugou is always reading the moves of the characters at a fast pace. He uses his skills, knowledge, and instincts simultaneously to act organically and artfully.

Baan from The Seven Deadly Sins

The anime series, The Seven Deadly Sins is a power-packed show with strong and vibrant characters, and the ESTP anime character in it is the Undead Baan. He is a stylish and charismatic sin who flaunts both personal ambition and social charisma, excelling at both ends, his own interests and with the Sins.

Greed from FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

ESTPs are exceptionally known for their tremendous entrepreneurial skills and a better ESTP anime character than Greed from the Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. He exhibits the ultimate passion for material possessions. Every single Alchemist: Brotherhood’s Seven Deadly Sins characters portray a part of Father, where Greed shows his materialism and enterprising skills.

It is not surprising to guess why Greed continuously works as a group, and all his incarnations awe the viewers with the charismatic personality.

Masamune Makabe from Masamune-Kun’s Revenge

Masamune was not born with entrepreneurial skills. He builds his skills and grows into a popular, good looking guy that Masamune-Kun’s Revenge showed and loved. He had a tough childhood, with numerous struggles and insecurities. But eventually, he gathered himself and used his looks and polished social skills to his benefit. He is able to excel at any social situation and works his ambition and knowledge to execute his plan to take vengeance against Aki Adagaki.

She is always prepared for all circumstances. Yumeko is bold and confident. With her friends’ support, she is willing to make anything possible.

Rintarou Okabe from Steins:Gate

Rintarous Okabe may lack steady composure, but he is ambitious and charismatic in his unique way. Although Dimple cannot get a desirable host, he is still quite strong and mighty, utilizing the stock of energy he has left and using his observant eyes and persuasiveness to make things and situations in his favor.

Faye Valentine from Cowboy Bebop

She is the quintessential femme fatal; she is Faye Valentine. Faye is charming and beautiful, always on-the-go, and indulged in the next big thing.

INITIATIVE VS GUILT (A complete guide)

This article will briefly describe “Initiative vs. Guilt”, Erikson’s Stages of Psychosocial Development, how children take and develop initiative, how children develop guilt, why balance is essential and what are the negative outcomes in initiative vs. guilt.

Erik Erikson has given the theory of psychosocial development in which the third stage is Initiative vs. Guilt. According to Erikson’s theory, the first two stages of children’s development are trust vs. mistrust and autonomy vs. shame, in these two stages, the main focus was the children working on the conflicts and forming a sense of trust in the world as well as feelings of independence and autonomy.

When the children entered the preschool years, they enter the third stage of psychosocial development which is initiative vs. guilt. If the children successfully complete the earlier two stages then the kids have a sense of trust, the world is trustworthy and they are able to act independently. Now, it is the time that they learn to exert power to themselves and the world. This is the time when they try their things on their own and explore their own abilities and by doing this they can develop ambition and direction.

Erik Erikson was a German-American developmental psychologist and psychoanalyst who has given the psychosocial development theory which explains human development throughout life via social interactions. Each stage has a psychosocial conflict that the children if successfully pass they move towards another stage. The following are the 8 stages:

  1. Trust Mistrust- Birth to 1 and ½ years old
  2. Autonomy vs. Shame- 1 ½ to 3 years old
  3. Initiative vs. Guilt- 3 to 5 years old
  4. Industry vs. Inferiority- 5 to 12 years old
  5. Ego Identity vs. Role Confusion- 12 to 18 years old
  6. Intimacy vs. Isolation- 18 to 40 years old
  7. Generativity vs. Stagnation- 40 to 65 years old
  8. Ego Integrity vs. Despair- 65 years old and beyond

Stage 3- Initiative vs. Guilt

Initiative versus Guilt is the 3rd stage of Erik Erikson’s Stages of Psychosocial Development. It occurs between the ages of three to five years old and which according to Erikson refers to the “play ages”. In this stage, children spend time with other children, they spend their time playing and developing their interpersonal skills.

When children play, they begin to take initiative and may attempt to feel out leadership roles and actions, this is known as the beginning of an initiative. The guilt comes into action when children make mistakes while trying to initiate and while navigating these positions. The children learn the art of cooperating without being aggressive and bossy via trial and error. Guilt or shame is considered as the feeling of the children- caring and respect towards others and choosing to do what is considered to be right. This might have some negative effect as well as it can also cause a child to avoid trying to take initiative and lead others.

Children in this stage according to their age learn how to begin asserting control and power by taking initiative in playing games, making decisions and leading other children. They face challenges in this stage as well and in this stage, it is important for the caregivers or parents to encourage their children to explore and help other children in making appropriate choices. If the parents of the caregivers fail in encouraging their children then their children develop feelings of being ashamed of themselves and eventually they become dependent upon others.

In this stage, the children are seen to be taking initiative and exploring their ways in developing their interpersonal skills, while it is also possible that it might become frustrating for parents and caregivers as the children begin to control the things that impact their lives. Although, for children in this stage, play and imagination play an important role in this stage. They make their own games and they may also suggest that the group plays at all. They not only practice initiative but also try and develop their leadership skills as well.

In Erikson’s Psychosocial stage 3, children often seem aggressive. They work on their subtleties in getting others to cooperate without being bossy or aggressive. These children don’t have the maturity of choosing appropriate games or roles for themselves and others. They tend to make mistakes and these mistakes might develop guilt in the child.

Developing an initiative in this stage takes place when the child interacts with another child. It also opens to the feelings of guilt and this guilt can lead to healthy outcomes, like caring for others’ feelings and focusing on what is considered right. The guilt might make the child avoid trying to start new games or lead others and take new challenges.

The balance between the initiative and guilt is very important, initiative without guilt can be harmful as well as guilt without initiative may make the child in withdrawing himself from others. It is essential for the parents and caregivers to subtle the situation and helps their children in finding the proper balance between the two. Parents must encourage their children to explore the possibilities.

The parents must point out the mistakes of the children and give solutions for the next time, the main thing is mistakes must be corrected and it should not be considered to be “bad”, as children are in their exploration stage. It is easy to take on guilt and shame for the things that never was the intention to carry. It also focuses on the parents as if the child asks his parents and they don’t reply appropriately then the child might feel guilty of bothering his parents as well.

The child needs to feel some form of guilt but only when necessary to control themselves. A child if interrupts and asks something, then a level of shame or guilt is necessary in order to realize that these actions might have negative social effects.

If initiative vs. guilt goes wrong the child goes out of balance in one way or another. They either may become guilt-ridden, become isolated from society or even may become emotionally fragile. And it is also possible that they may become pushy and even aggressive. They may doubt their ability to take actions and therefore, they may stop taking any initiative in return. It is also possible, that they may selfishly disregard the feelings of other people.
